Steps
- Confirm system and use
Check the resin system and whether the product is for indoor or outdoor use. This determines where it can go before any other figure matters.
- Note the cure schedule
Read the cure window as metal temperature and time. Check that your oven can achieve it on your heaviest parts.
- Check powder properties
Look at specific gravity and particle size. Specific gravity is needed for coverage estimates; particle size affects application and finish.
- Read the test conditions
For mechanical and resistance results, note the substrate, pretreatment, film thickness and test method used. Results on laboratory panels may differ from your parts.
- Check storage guidance
Note recommended storage conditions and shelf life, especially for low-cure grades.
- Cross-check certificates
If an approval is mentioned, confirm that it covers that specific product, colour and finish.
Parameters
- Polyester specific gravity (catalogue)
- 1.4–1.8 g/cm³ depending on colour and gloss
- Polyester particle size (catalogue)
- Average 30–38 µm; >90% between 10 and 84 µm
- Cure schedule
- per TDS
- Storage and shelf life
- Storage stability tested at 6 months below 30 °C; follow the TDS for each product
Common mistakes
- Comparing test results from two suppliers without checking film thickness and substrate.
- Reading the cure temperature as oven air temperature.
- Treating an in-house test result as an independent certificate.
- Assuming an approval listed for one product applies to the whole range.
